Program Executive Summary

This 10-day program is thoughtfully designed to give school students a well-rounded and immersive experience of contemporary China.Ocean Explorer is a 10-day international youth programme designed for Russian students aged 13–16, using Hainan Island as a living classroom to explore oceans, sustainability, innovation and cultural exchange. As China’s only Free Trade Port and a globally significant tropical island region, Hainan offers a unique combination of marine ecosystems, biodiversity, technological innovation and contemporary Chinese culture. Through a carefully designed learning journey, students are encouraged to discover the relationship between people, oceans and sustainable futures while experiencing authentic interactions with Chinese communities and young people. The programme combines ocean exploration, outdoor adventure, practical Chinese communication, youth exchange, content creation and future-focused learning experiences. Rather than traditional classroom learning, participants engage in challenge-based activities, collaborative projects and real-world experiences that promote curiosity, creativity, communication and global awareness. By the end of the programme, students will have developed a deeper understanding of ocean sustainability, strengthened their intercultural communication skills, built international friendships and gained new perspectives on China, the world and their own future role within it.
